The WNY Section has officially launched its 2026 Youth & Collegiate Amateur Radio Outreach initiative. Led by Section Youth Coordinator Emily Davis (KC2YTH), the program partners with high schools, STEM academies, and universities across Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse to introduce students to radio technology, satellite communications, and electronics prototyping.
Participating schools are receiving ham radio starter kits, antenna building materials, and mentorship from experienced local amateur radio mentors. Student radio clubs will participate in high-altitude balloon telemetry tracking and amateur satellite contacts.
“Amateur radio is the ultimate hands-on STEM platform,” said Davis. “From RF engineering to computer networking, students gain practical technical skills while building lifelong connections in the radio community.”
Clubs interested in sponsoring a school radio club or hosting a youth radio day can reach out via the WNY Section leadership contact page.
